reading goals undertale meme
ah undertale dog

So for those of you who don’t know me very well I also really enjoy video games. This meme is taken from one called Undertale and I think readers especially would enjoy it because it uses a lot of wordplay and even makes jokes based on font. It’s a choice based story game with some turn based action and awesome 8-bit graphics. It’s humorous but also can get emotional and I can’t recommend it enough.

Also my 2020 reading goal is 170, yikes!

buy more books meme
did someone say more books?!

So I have a problem. When I’m stressed out I impulse buy things off the internet. Even if I’m stressed out about money my solution is to impulse buy movies and books. My dvd/bluray collection is absurd but my book collection is catching up.

I bought the blu-ray for Who Framed Roger Rabbit and was thoroughly enjoying re-watching it for the first time since I was a kid. It so holds up! And then I discovered it’s based on a series of books! Who knew?! So obviously I had to buy the first one and check it out. It’s sitting on my kindle right now but I hope it’s just as weird as the movie.

re-reading meme
pap

I mentioned before in my goals for 2020 that I don’t re-read many books. One of my goals this year is to re-read at lease one old favorite. What are your most re-read books?

I plan to re-read either Tom Robbins’ Fierce Invalids Home From Hot Climates because I love that author and that’s probably my favorite of his or I’m going to finally buy the pretty hardcovers and re-read all of Locke & Key.

As far as books I’ve already re-read there aren’t many but back in my Chuck Palahniuk days I definitely re-read Invisible Monsters at least three times. Also I was a really weird high school kid and I read a lot of Faulkner. As I Lay Dying and The Sound and the Fury both sit on my short list of books I’ve read more than once.

I’m sure there are a few more but I mostly just read books that are new to me. We all have our style.

Buy those reads here:

Locke & Key Master Edition Volume 1

Invisible Monsters: A Novel

As I Lay Dying (First Edition) (Norton Critical Editions)

The Sound and the Fury: The Corrected Text

book is better than movie meme
well in the book…

The most recent film adaptation I was disappointed in was The Goldfinch. The movie came out in the summer of 2019 and I was so excited. The book is so lovely and emotional and the movie is so flat. All the plot pieces are there but it completely missed the heart.

library meme
duh

A bit ironic considering how much book shopping I do on Amazon but I also love to support my local library. If I check out a book and fall completely in love with it though I do sometimes feel the need to then go buy it and display it proudly on my shelf.

What’s your current library haul look like?

faster than light book meme

I don’t do book clubs anymore for this very reason. Nobody in the flesh world seems to want to sit down and discuss books! The internet is a great place to make up for it but I still haven’t organized much of a book club. Just a buddy read with my pal at thecavaliernerd.com We did a discussion of Thanos Quest and Infinity Gauntlet you can find here.

It was a lot of fun and I’d love to do more buddy reads. If you’re a fellow book blogger hit me up at amanjareads@gmail.com if you’re interested!

climax of a book meme
I’m torn!

Be honest, we’ve all done this. You’re at the really exciting part of the book and your eyes can’t read as fast as your brain is moving so you steal a glance to the next page to see any glimpse of the words dead or alive.

I think the last book I really caught myself doing this with was They Both Die at the End. Even though I knew with full logic that they were both going to die at the end! Great great book though, you can find my spoiler free review here and the spoiler full one here.

long awaited sequel meme
just maybe

For me, this mostly applies to movies. I don’t read a lot of non comic book series. Probably because I don’t read a lot of fantasy. But I am still very familiar with that torn feeling of being so excited for something but trying to reserve excitement in case it can’t live up to the first one.

One series that I did actually read more than one of and liked both and will eventually get to the third one I swear is the John Dies at the End trilogy. Not to be confused with They Both Die at the End but maybe there is a theme in books I read.

John Dies at the End is a bizarre surrealist adventure sci fi comedy that will take you through a universe you’ve never seen before and will make you laugh and cower in equal parts.

not returning books meme
you get what you f**king deserve

This is the worst. I stopped lending out books because people just never ever return them. Even worse is when they don’t read them AND don’t return them. I lent it to you because I thought you’d enjoy it Kayla.

There’s a big gap on my shelf for several Chuck Palahniuk books that I used to have but were never returned to me. Haunted, Survivor, Choke, gone forever to people I don’t even talk to anymore.

Now if I think it’s mandatory that a friend read something I decide how much I’ll miss it and then just gift them my copy. I did this with a graphic novel called Black Hole and I don’t regret it.

  1. Amanja, good, unique post. I get interrupted in public all the time. I live in Puerto Rico. Readers are few and far between, so people feel compelled to ask what are you reading, because I’m such an oddity. Unfortunately, it’s never a cute lady. I’m currently re-reading/listening to Frank Herbert’s Dune, a BookSirens book called Pigs by Daniel James, The Bay of Shadows by Samantha Wood, and My Enemy, My Ally a Star Trek novel by the aforementioned Diane Duane. Yes, four books at a time across various devices and an actual non-digital. I usually read in an air-conditioned car near the beach. Thanks for the share.

    • You sound like me, I have a book going on my kindle, my tablet, and then usually a hard copy as well. Gotta have options for moods!

  2. 170? I’m a pretty avid reader and that even scares me! Most of these resonate in one way or another; I stopped lending books years ago when I lent a tar Trek book to a friend and never got it back. (It was a good one too, The Wounded Sky by Diane Duane!) One good thing about all the craziness going on now is it gives me more time to read 🙂

    • I’m trying to find the upper limit. I read 150 last year so I’m seeing how far I can push it. It’s such a bummer to lose a good book!
