5 Star Books I’ve Read in 2020 (So Far!)

I set an extraordinary reading goal (170 books) for 2020 and so far I’m actually almost on track to complete it. There have been a small handful of books so far this year that have really stood out and earned their 5 out of 5 ratings.

As of writing this I’ve completed 53 books and these 6 have been worthy of their 5/5 rating. That’s about 11% of the books I’ve read this year. Hopefully we can bump that number up by the end of the year!

Daredevil: Back in Black

Daredevil: Back in Black didn’t start as a five star run for me. I was hesitant at first of the changes made to my favorite superhero. But author Charles Soule really got there. It’s an overall fantastic run that I can definitely recommend to anyone. Even if you’ve never read Daredevil before I think you could really enjoy these volumes.

The Sun is Also a Star

I couldn’t put this book down. I finished it over the course of a weekend because I just had to know how this young couple fared. By the end I was in full tears and absolutely in love. I don’t even typically read romance-y love stories about all this malarkey and it had even my skeptic self all emotional and invested.

Questions of Perspective

Questions of Perspective will be released May 14th 2020 but is available for pre-order and I strongly recommend you do so.

I loved the philosophy and story telling in this book. It brings all of the grand questions of life down to our level and balances the heavy concepts with humor and grace. It’s an incredibly strong debut novel from an author you should have on your radar.

Altered States book cover
also a very good movie that I have seen

Altered States

Full review here.

I saw the movie version of Altered States before I read the book and it’s one of those rare cases where the two are identical but equally enjoyable. It’s a hard sci fi trip through time and the subconscious that is so fast paced and action packed you should really try to finish it in one sitting so that you don’t have to stop and wait for what happens next.
