1Q84

1Q84 is a masterpiece. A 900 page epic that never ever lets you drift from the page. Murikami deftly weaves together two interconnecting stories about an alternate reality where there are only a couple of subtle clues that things are not what they used to be. It is a magical realism tale that has as much action and romance and is so beautifully written you’ll want to pause and just absorb it after each chapter has finished.

Fierce Invalids Home From Hot Climates

I adore Tom Robbins and have read all of his books. All of them. But I think this one could be considered my favorite. Robbins is a modern philosopher and a master of the English language. He crafts these delightfully chewable sentences that linger long after they’ve finished. Fierce Invalids is a story about a man who is cursed in the jungle and his long journey after coming to terms with the fact that curses might just be real.

Love in the Time of Cholera

This book has been at the top of my to re-read list for way too long. Gabriel Garcia Marquez uses language like water colors to paint this story of love, death, and redemption. It’s a classic for a reason and a great introduction to Latin-American literature.
