Slasher is now the third Charles Forsman book I’ve read, this one published under the name Chuck Forsman. I can confidently say that he has a distinct style and he sticks to it. His drawings are simple and ugly but they fit the content well. His stories and characters are just as ugly and always end in a disturbing tragedy.

This entry to his library follows Christine as she explores a fetish that has sat dormant, probably due to legal and safety reasons. She’s started an online relationship with an underaged boy who uploads knife play porn to the internet, she enjoys it both physically and mentally.

Her literal blood lust starts to get out of control when she takes the leap from nonconsensual knife play to full blown murder. Slasher brings us a very atypical character, a female sexual murderer. There are tons of stories both nonfiction and fiction about male murderers driven by sexual urges but in an odd twist of feminist equality we now have Christine.

The comic book frantically displays her urges run amok. This leads to her obvious tragic ending. Of course there is no way that a killer this sloppy is ever going to make it to a happily ever after, nor do we want her to.

Forsman’s characters are not be liked. They are unsympathetic, deplorable, and fascinating. His comics push boundaries well past their breaking points but it’s always clear that the things these people do are bad. He doesn’t glorify sexual depravity and murder but he does understand that it makes for an entertaining story. We’re all forced to admit that we like these stories. Well, at least I admit it, publicly in reviews like these.

Horror fans will understand the value in Slasher. This is not your ordinary serial killer book. This is a new take that doesn’t hold back in any way. When you think you’ve seen everything the genre has to offer graphic novels like these step in and make you glad that your imagination doesn’t travel to the same dark places as this author.

If you’re ready to be grossed out, offended, and exposed to fetishes you never wanted to know about then please enjoy.

Slasher – Comic Book Summary

As with every Charles Forsman book, Slasher is abraissively offensive, over the top, and doesn’t take its time jumping right into the meat of the story.

Our main character, can hardly call her a hero or an anti-hero, protagonist is even a stretch, is Christine. She’s an adult woman who starts the story by getting sexually harassed by her boss. At home, she’s long distance dating a 14 year old boy named Joshua.

Joshua is an unhealthily skinny boy who makes fetish knife play porn for Christine to masturbate to when he’s not being abused by his very religious mother. The mother, who seems to project her Munchausen’s by proxy to her son, keeps him ill and locked in his room so that she doesn’t have to worry about him ever leaving her.

Now, if you’re still interested in reading Slasher it does get worse from here content wise. Apply your trigger warnings at will but I like my stories original even at the cost of being grotesque.

Christine is feeling lonely one night after going to her father’s funeral. Joshua has had his phone confiscated and she has no one to talk to so she heads to a bar. She picks up a random guy and takes him home, ties him up, and takes out her knife right before the chapter breaks.

The reader is left unsure of what happens to bar dude but the next chapter shows us exactly who Christine is. She gets pissed off in the parking lot of a gas station and kills a man in the parking lot for yelling at his girlfriend.

Emboldened by her murder she heads straight to her boss’ house to punish him for harassing her. From there, she starts attacking anyone who dares step in her path. She dons a latex full body and face suit to make it very clear that these murders are part of a fetish, not just out of rage.

If the latex wasn’t a strong enough signal we will see Christine murder someone and orgasm almost immediately after, right next to the slaughtered body.

Finally, she is on the path to meet Joshua in person. However, Joshua isn’t who he claimed to be. She’s been catfished and lured in by a serial rapist and murderer who drugs her and ties her up. Right as he is about to rape her his brother intervenes, seemingly put out by having to do this again.

They think they kill her and drag her body off to a dump site. She’s still breathing though and escapes the pit covered in blood and missing a hand but out for revenge.

She returns to the house of the rapist where she also finds the local police. The rapist kills one of the cops and the other cop kills him. Christine steals the cop car and puts her latex back on. Along the way she slashes up a third cop to make it to her mom’s house to say goodbye.

Detectives have followed her trail of carnage and corner her. She climbs up to the roof to face them and accept her fate her own way. This way being cutting herself open, throwing her intestines at the cops and falling off the roof.

As she dies she thinks that it feels good. She ends with a smile on her face.

Slasher has the typical Charles Forsman ending of a brutal death for the main character. There will be no sequels.
