Punisher: FrankenCastle by author Rick Remender and Tony Moore
I started reading Punisher comic books as a way to catch some extra Daredevil. Turns out Punisher actually has quite a few good runs and a hand-full of bizarre but fun ones like Space: Punisher and this one, Punisher: FrankenCastle.
Just in time for spooky season FrankenCastle displays Punisher as chopped to pieces and then reassembled and reanimated by Morbius. As he’s piecing him back together into a stitched up monster he decides his chest cavity is a good place to hide the bloodstone he’s been holding on to for some reason. Somehow, this is actually the only book I’ve actually seen Morbius in. Prior to this I honestly only knew that his power is morbin’ and his movie made one-morbillion dollars at the box office.
Morbius gives Frank Castle a new power set that he’s never had before and creates the ultimate killing machine. It also makes the monster hunter Elsa Bloodstone very unhappy, she wants her stone back.
A character known as Dark Wolverine also wants the bloodstone and is willing to take on Punisher and Elsa for it. Dark Wolverine is apparently the son of the regular Wolverine but y’know… evil. OG Wolverine is on the scene to stop Dark Wolverine from hurting anyone but also protect him from being killed because he still loves his baby boy regardless of the evil.

This is silly. But the book is called Punisher: FrankenCastle so that’s exactly what it should be. It’s mindless, violent fun that ends with an epic showdown on monster island.
This book was made because everyone involved had fun with it. The art goes just as hard as the absurd plot and it’s all the better for it.

Just look at those colors! That image is actually from the finale with the art style changed a bit from the rest of the run but it’s no less impressive.
I will continue to be mad that bastard cops have corrupted the Punisher’s symbol. I’ve found myself to be quite a fan but cannot display his trademark skull for fear of anyone mistaking me for a pro police brutality maniac. Just look at his shirt! It’s so cool, it’s not fair.
I encourage you Marvel comic book readers to pick up some of these more obscure Punisher comics. They’re at least different than the rest of the bunch. Different has become immensely valuable in Marvel as all of their works start to meld into one mega story that is nothing but a series of cameos in a cookie cutter plot.
Read Punisher: FrankenCastle and remind yourself that comic books weren’t always castrated pg-13 blockbusters.
